4. God’s Plan for Children as Part of the Family
Ephesians 6:1-3
It seems today many are confused as to what God’s plan is for the family. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us that parents are to teach children the word of God. It should be an intricate part of their everyday life. Parents are also to teach their children to obey and honor them. It sounds easy enough, but in reality it is very difficult. Children are born with a sin nature and that sin nature is fed through the world they must live in. With all of the cards stacked against the family in 2013 the apostle Paul offers this truth: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Honor your father and mother...” Children are responsible for their actions regardless of their sin nature or the worldly pressures they face. However, as parents and as a church, we are instructed to teach children how to obey and honor their parents. And we do so by teaching them the Word of God.
