4. The Heir

Galatians 4:1-7

We began “The Advent Series” in the book of Matthew, where Matthew presents us with the lineage of Jesus, the royal line of Israel. This leads us to the presentation of Jesus as the promised Messiah. Additionally, it shows how the supernatural birth of Jesus came to be and how it fulfilled Old Testament prophecy. Last week, we looked at the mystery of why Jesus the Messiah had to come. His coming and His death on the cross fulfilled all that the old sacrificial system pointed toward.

Today, we’re going to look a bit further into "why" Jesus came.  In our text it states that Jesus Christ, both fully God and fully man, came not only for the purpose of redemption but of adoption. He came not only to pay the price of our sins but to make us new creations, adopted sons and heirs of God. As we look together at Galatians 4 we'll see the beautiful realities of adoption and what it means to be heirs of God.
